After many years of alterations and additions in existing power distribution systems the thermal short circuit resistance of switchgear and cables may no longer be sufficient. Increases in supply system short circuit power or the addition of generators to the distribution system can have the same result.
After surveying the equipment data and calculating with the changed system parameters vulnerable points are easily recognized. Overload conditions are clearly indicated by line color as well as in the data of the affected equipment.
In addition the protection equipment and strategy will be surveyed, thus allowing to determine the actual safety level for the power distribution system installed. Based on the result recommendations for improving system safety and availablity will be presented.
